Benefits of Mouse Movers for Homeworking

If you’ve never come across the need for a mouse jiggler / mover before, it can be quite a bizarre concept to appreciate. Why on earth would anyone need a device to move their mouse? Put simply, they help people whose work computers have their privicy settings locked by IT Admin. The result of that is the screen saver or sleep mode keeps activating. This can be disruptive at best but also lead to other complications. But we wanted to explore this topic more deeply with some willing customers and get more of an appreciation for the benefits of mouse movers for homeworking .

The Rise of Home Working

The number of people working partially or fully remote has been on the rise for years but COVID-19 may have hit fast-forward on this trend. People are valuing their freedom of choice. As reported by the World Economic Forum, a whopping 98% of people would like to have the option to work remotely for the rest of their careers.

Delving a little more deeply into what a flexible schedule provides, ultimately means having a better work-life balance. Workers can start and end their day as they choose, as long as their work is complete and leads to strong outcomes. This control over your work schedule can be invaluable when it comes to attending the needs of your personal life. Whether it’s balancing your children’s schooling, attending medical appointments, doing household chores, getting in some exercise, or even just being around for a contractor or delivery – all these can all be done far more easily when working from home.

We wanted to get our own insights about how people are using the Wee Shoogle to help them enjoy more fully the benefits of home working. We spoke with a few of our customers, in Public Sector roles, to help us understand how our product is being used. Interestingly for us, some similar themes started to emerge. Here are some of their stories:

How the Wee Shoogle is Helping with Home Working

Simone Kay, Administrator, works in The Department for Work and Pensions

“My role is quite task based and fairly repetitive. There’s quite a bit of data inputting and reporting every month. Working from home does provide a basis to try and get the head down and crack through everything as quickly as possible. That frees up some time to manage the daily household curve-balls and distractions. Just spending more time with the kids, especially the home teaching, has been a huge undertaking and quite stressful. At the same time I have been able to spend more time with them. Knowing that I’m being indirectly monitored and by not frequently appearing ‘inactive’ or ‘away’ to the rest of the team now, means I have been able to give my kids the quality time they have needed without the worry.”

Katherine Carey, Marketing Manager, from a prominent U.K. University

“If I’m really honest with you, I’ve been able to squeeze more time out of my lunch hour each day to do non-work related stuff. The blend between work and home is a real mix-mash. But my manager is definitely old-school and expects the rigid 9 to 5. I’m conscious of perceptions of not appearing online at all times. The ultimate benefit to me is peace of mind knowing that the Wee Shoogle is making sure I don’t look like I’m not working. I’ve been able to fit in a little yoga before lunch which has been bliss.”

Ernest Wallace, Information Analyst, Local Government

“I’ve worked in various roles for both local Government and central Government. Even before the pandemic took hold there was remote working allowed. We used to joke with each other that  you’d have one hand on the mouse to continually give it a nudge, even though you could be half asleep! It’s a cultural thing where managers often don’t have a level of trust for people working from home. That could be fair enough in some instances, some are more productive than others. But you know what it’s like, we’re not machines running at a constant purr. It’s so simple but having the Wee Shoogle to make sure the mouse is moving and stopping my screensaver from kicking in is just the tonic. I can then read work documents and take calls without the management culture of distrust taking hold. It’s important because once your card is marked, even unfairly, then it can cause issues. I’d even go as far to say it can inhibit career progression. Now, I don’t need to worry about any of that.”
